Nintendo Gameboy Screen Lines Fix

I got a Gameboy in the post today from eBay and as usual... it has undisclosed faults...

Luckily i can fix it though... The issues are the screen has lines in the image and the unit powers off and some times won't turn on under battery power.

Here is the screen:

The turning off issue is almost always the contacts which usually suffer from battery corrosion. In this case, someone has had a go at removing the corrosion but there is still some lingering around.

So let's disassemble...

With the unit dismantled i can now redo the solder joints on the ribbon cable which is the cause for the lines on screen.

All done!

Next up, the battery section...

As you can see, these contacts are a mess!

Best course of action for this, is to use vinegar which removes the alkaline battery mess nicely!

All done, looking as new now!

Refitting, looking great!

Soldered the negative terminal back onto the PCB and we are good to go!

All assembled, put some nice high quality batteries in it

All done, a quick polish and it's good to go!

Time to finally complete Legend of Zelda!
