I have a little Intel Atom based server here which i use for file sharing, web design and a few other bits over the network. It is a early Intel Atom based machine with 2GB ram and 1TB hard disk.
It’s passive cooled, even the PSU is so it gets fairly hot. Recently it has been getting pretty warn so i decided to refurbish it with some fresh, higher grade thermal paste (Artic Silver 5).
The machine.
Strip down process begins…
Here is the PSU, a tiny little PSU! Screw driver is there for comparison.
Here is the Atom CPU..
It is soooo small. USB stick in the following picture for reference.
Other heat sink removed showing the chipset IC’s.
Cleaned off the heat sinks.
New thermal paste applied.
Heat sinks and PSU back on.
Hard disk reinstalled.
All done!
